The maps display the following topics referred to the SHARE project area:
- Existing hydropower plants:
o Installed power (MW)
o Annual hydropower produced (GWh/a)
- New HP plant demands:
o Theoretical annual power produced (GWh/a). This information is derived from the collection of single plants demands specifying requested power to be installed in the project area. We used this records as an approximate indicator of hydropower residual potential.
- Hydropower residual potential coming from Regional Energy Plan (if existing and affordable)or other studies or maps (GWh/a)
There are different ways countries and regions define and classify HP production and concessions demands. The data availability in different administrative areas of the Alps is very variable so it is not ever possible to produce homogeneous representation for the whole territory considered.
Maps are referred to the Alpine Space area of cooperation detailed in NUTS2 and NUTS3 level. The NUTS classification (Nomenclature of territorial units for statistics) is a hierarchical system for dividing up the economic territory of the EU (http://epp.eurostat.ec.europa.eu/portal/page/portal/nuts_nomenclature/introduction).
Maps are available in two different formats:
- kml format used to display geographic data in an Earth browser such as Google Earth, Google Maps, and Google Maps for mobile;
- pdf format.
